Frequently Asked Questions
Are you all Registered Clinical Psychologists?
Yes. All the psychologists at The Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Clinic are registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board in the Clinical scope of practice. We all have post graduate training in Clinical Psychology. We are also members of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists (NZCCP), which is a professional body for clinical psychologists in New Zealand.
How much do you charge?
From 1 July 2022 our fee is $215 including GST per session (excludes separately contracted services). Sessions take approximately 55 minutes. Sometimes a subsidy is available through WINZ for those on Income support (talk to WINZ to find out).
Do you charge for non-attendance?
Yes. We have a policy of charging for cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of CBT sessions you need depends on what it is you are wanting help with and what your goals are. Often this will be between five and 15 weekly/fortnightly sessions, generally lasting a little less than an hour.
Do I need to be referred?
No, you do not need to be referred. Sometimes we do get a written referral from a GP and this can be useful but is not necessary. If you browse through the individual psychologists on our home page you may like to contact one of them directly (you will be able to see their mobile numbers). Or you may be happy to meet with the next available clinician, please use the contact page on our website.
Do you see children?
No, we don’t see children or young people under the age of 18 at the Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Clinic.
Would my health insurance cover sessions at the Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Clinic?
This is very much dependent on your insurance policy, but sometimes policies do include a set number of sessions with a registered clinical psychologist. In this case it may well be the case that your insurance company would reimburse you for some sessions. It is worth contacting your insurance company or broker to enquire.
